The mission of the Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies at Metropolitan College is the training and development of highly-skilled executives, able to pursue successful careers in the dynamically evolving global job market of the Shipping and Maritime sector. Shipping is a key link in the global supply chain and accounts for over 95 per cent of all imports and exports. About 90 per cent of world trade is carried by the shipping industry, which offers graduates exciting and varied opportunities, both in Greece and abroad.

The academic programmes consist of up-to-date modules which cover all the latest trends and aspects of the functional and practical areas of Shipping, Maritime and Port Management. The degrees are offered by Solent University, a world leader in Shipping studies. The University owns the renowned Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering, the world’s premier maritime education and training provider, offering first class education, training, consultancy and research services to the international shipping, commercial yacht, and offshore oil and gas industries for nearly 70 years. Metropolitan College's Maritime Academy, one of the largest Maritime and Shipping studies Educational Institutions in S. Europe, received the SAFETY4SEA Training Award 2019 for delivering high quality Maritime Education programmes in partnership with Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering of Solent University in Southampton.

Metropolitan College is the only higher education institution in Greece that is accredited by the two most prestigious professional societies in the shipping industry worldwide, namely the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers-ICS and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport-CILT. Moreover, it is an Associate Member of INTERCARGO, the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, and a Marine Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), the international membership body and learned society for marine professionals operating in the spheres of marine engineering, science, or technology. Metropolitan College is a Corporate Member of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association-HELMEPA. The membership's aim is to support the association’s actions to create an environmental conscience in shipping, maritime safety and to maintain a clean marine environment, as well as to expand students training opportunities at contemporary issues and increase awareness of the marine environment protection.

Metropolitan College is also a Full Member of the International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI), an association of colleges and other organisations involved in providing education and training for personnel involved in the Merchant Navy, a Full Member of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), the world’s largest international shipping association, with around 1,900 members globally and an Associate Member of the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANCO).

Last but not least, the Metropolitan College is unconditionally certified as a Maritime Training Provider by DNV-GL, the world's leading classification society and it is the only College in Greece that carries this certification, which covers all naval and maritime training programs offered by its School of Shipping and Maritime Studies. Additionally, it is certified by Maritime & Costguard Agency (MCA), an executive agency of the United Kingdom responsible for the environmental safety and the safety of all seafarers in UK waters.
