The webinar, an initiative of the Global University Hub, will take place online on Wednesday, December 18th, at 18:00.

This webinar is addressed to healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, dietitians, nutritionists, and pharmacists) who provide care to high-risk patients or those diagnosed with diabetes, with a focus on primary care, as well as students from these fields of study. It will offer a targeted scientific lecture covering areas of pathophysiology, epidemiology, and modern methods for the prevention and treatment of these two conditions. The goal of the webinar is to provide insightful and evidence-based knowledge on best practices for delivering high-quality.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about the new Postgraduate Certificate in Diabetes and Obesity in Primary Care, offered by Metropolitan College in collaboration with the Miguel Hernandez University Medical School, a programme designed to empower healthcare professionals with cutting edge knowledge, practical skills, and an interdisciplinary framework to tackle these challenges in primary care settings.
Presentations will be delivered both in English and Greek language.

Significant facts about Diabetes and Obesity conditions
Diabetes and obesity represent two of the most critical health challenges of the 21st century, often described as a global pandemic and epidemic, respectively. Both conditions are intricately linked, with obesity being a significant risk factor for Type 2 diabetes. Together, they contribute to anescalating burden on primary healthcaresystems worldwide.
Diabetes: The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that over 537 million adults globally were living with diabetes in 2021, with this number projected to rise to 783 million by 2045. Poorly managed diabetes can lead to severe complications, including cardiovascular disease, kidney
failure, and lower-limb amputations.
Obesity: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 1.9 billion adults were overweight in 2016, and of these, more than 650 million were classified as obese. Obesity is associated with a range of chronic conditions, including hypertension, certain cancers, and reduced life expectancy.
