nea egkainiaIn a festive atmosphere and in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr Prokopios Pavlopoulos, the official opening of the expanded campus of Metropolitan College took place on Thursday 8 September 2016 in Maroussi.

The ongoing development of Metropolitan College has led to the expansion of the existing campus which now reaches a total of 13,000 m², rendering it the largest and most modern private College campus in Athens. Metropolitan College, consistent in the implementation of its strategic plan, continues to invest in education provision, using its own funds to expand its facilities aiming at offering thousands of students top quality educational services comparable to those found in universities abroad.

The evening was marked by the official launch of the international activity of Metropolitan College through the twinning with the globally renowned ‘Peter the Great’ St Petersburg Polytechnic University, in the context of the Year of Greek-Russian Partnership ‘2016 – Greece in Russia’, which aims at fostering the cultural and educational relations between the two countries. A Memorandum was signed on the same day between Professor Andrei Rudskoi, Vice-Chancellor of ‘Peter the Great’ St Petersburg Polytechnic University and Mr Konstantinos Rodopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metropolitan College.

A number of members of the Greek Parliament, Ambassadors, business people and members of the Greek intellectual and cultural society attended the ceremony along with the College staff, students and other guests. Moreover, the Vice-Chancellors and other distinguished staff members of the British universities collaborating with Metropolitan College were guests of honour.

A very touching moment was when the CEO of Metropolitan College, Ms Kalliope Rodopoulou, awarded two full scholarships to the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer ‘ELPIDA’. The scholarships were received by the President of the Association and UNESCO Ambassador of Good Will, Ms Marianna Vardinogianni. The ceremony ended with a tour of the new impressive facilities.
