Metropolitan College Podiatry Department welcomed the respective academic staff and students from Queen Margaret University. This was initiated by the QMU Podiatry team. The Podiatry Programme Leader of Metropolitan College, Mr Georgios Gkrimas, put together an itinerary to make it a memorable experience for both students and staff of the two institutions.

During the 3-day-visit to Athens, students had the opportunity to collaborate and exchange views. QMU staff and students were shown around the state-of-the-art premises of the College Athens Downtown Campus and supported our students in treating real patients at the College Podiatry Training Clinic. After that, they attended a seminar about “Gait Assessment & Orthotic Devices Design” led by Dr Giannis Giakas, Professor at the University of Thessaly and Biomechanics Research Coordinator of the Institute of Human Performance and Rehabilitation of the Centre of Research and Technology – Thessaly.

They also visited the Gait & Motion Analysis Lab, ELEPAP, where they had the chance to observe, for the first time, the procedure of a gait analysis. The last day they went on a walking tour of the centre of Athens and they enjoyed the Athenian nightlife. We all look forward to receiving more students from our collaborating Universities in the future.
