Description
The BSc (Hons) Midwifery aims to promote a woman–centered approach to care which encourages partnership between midwives, women and their families and empowers midwives to effect and sustain change within their professional culture. It also aims to develop midwives who meet local and European standards for Midwifery and are eligible to register with relevant professional bodies.
Midwifery is an evolving profession whose continuous development demands up to date scientific knowledge and clinical competence. It also necessitates continuous growth in research work arising from midwifery and contributing disciplines (medicine, psychology, medical sciences, etc.). The changing demands of the profession stemming from changing women’s attitudes, new approaches to health care and new advances in technology require the provision of high quality education for midwives. Thus, a comprehensive course in Midwifery should aim to present current developments in theory and clinical practice, promote an interdisciplinary approach to health care where the woman is at the centre of all the decision-making, and support a critical approach to learning and practicing.
