MA Acting for Stage and Screen at Metropolitan College is designed for actors and performing arts professionals who wish to advance their artistic practice across theatre, film, television, and contemporary digital media.
This master’s degree programme combines advanced actor training for stage and screen with creative technologies, contemporary modes of artistic production, and practice research methodologies that place creative work at the centre of enquiry and professional development.
Students refine their acting, vocal, and physical performance skills while exploring a range of contemporary approaches to acting. They gain practical experience in screen performance, audiovisual content creation, and the use of digital tools that support the development of their artistic voice, professional identity, and creative portfolio.
Through intensive practical workshops, collaborative creative projects, and applied research, students investigate the relationship between performance, emerging technologies, and contemporary storytelling. The programme encourages experimentation across different media and performance contexts, enabling students to engage critically and creatively with the evolving landscape of the performing arts.
The degree culminates in the creation of substantial artistic work for both stage and screen, providing graduates with the advanced skills, professional confidence, and creative versatility required to pursue careers across theatre, film, television, digital media, and interdisciplinary performance practice.
Acting today extends far beyond the boundaries of the theatre stage. Contemporary performers are increasingly required to work across theatre, film, television, digital platforms, and emerging media, developing a broad range of artistic, technical, and professional skills that enable them to navigate a rapidly evolving creative landscape.
Throughout the programme, students train in both stage and screen acting while engaging with contemporary professional practices that support long-term career development. These include audition preparation, self-tape creation, portfolio development, and the effective presentation of artistic work within professional and industry contexts.
The programme also introduces students to creative technologies and digital tools that are reshaping contemporary performance practice. Through innovative approaches such as interactive digital journals and multimedia storytelling, students explore new ways of creating, documenting, presenting, and sharing artistic work. They are encouraged to develop interdisciplinary projects that combine performance, technology, and contemporary forms of audience engagement.
Particular emphasis is placed on professional development, wellbeing, and artistic sustainability. Through the programme’s Mental Wealth strand, students reflect on the management of their professional careers, the development of their artistic and public identities, and strategies that support resilience, adaptability, and long-term creative growth within the performing arts sector.
Combining creative enquiry, practical exploration, and the development of original artistic projects for stage and screen, the programme supports students in defining their own artistic voice and equips them with the knowledge, confidence, and professional tools required to thrive in contemporary performance industries.
